19th International Veterinary Training Program in Japan (July 4 – August 3, 2023)

For one month, from July 4 to August 3, 2023, three international students from Taiwan participated in practical training at three veterinary hospitals in Japan:

1. Japan Animal Medical Center

2. Naoi Animal Hospital

3. Igusa Animal Clinic

During the veterinary hospital training, the students had the opportunity to observe endoscopic procedures—an invaluable experience in veterinary practice. At the end of the program, she took a commemorative photo with the hospital staff. Judging by the smiles in the photo, the students seemed to have learned a lot and enjoyed meaningful interactions throughout their time there.

We are pleased to share some wonderful messages from both the participating international students and the hospital staff.

💬 Comments from the international students:
“I decided to do practical training in Japan because our teachers often spoke about the country’s advanced veterinary technology in class.
At the hospital where I trained, there were many cases each day, and I received detailed guidance not only on textbooks but also on basic clinical techniques.
I also had impressive experiences such as observing acupuncture and visiting a zoo.

At first, I was worried about the language barrier. However, thanks to the English-speaking doctors and the nurses who used translation tools and treated us kindly, I felt very welcomed.
It was a wonderful experience—like being part of a big family.”

👥 Comments from the hospital staff:
“This student was very serious and sociable, so the training went smoothly.
We managed to communicate well enough using English and Chinese characters.

I even learned a lot of English from the student.
It was a unique and valuable experience that differed from our usual work.
Even with my limited English, we enjoyed communicating through gestures and simple words.

It was a great opportunity for international exchange.”

We are also happy to share messages from the veterinary hospital staff:

“This was our first time accepting international students, but it was a lot of fun and a great source of inspiration for our team.

When I was a student, the IVSA-J organization didn’t exist. If it had, I might have tried practicing abroad myself.

Seeing how meaningful this training was for the students from Taiwan, I do feel a bit of regret that I didn’t do more to support them.
Nevertheless, I hope this experience becomes the first of many, and that we will continue welcoming students in the future.”

We also have some great photos to share!
